SingHealth Academy Duke-NUS Golden Apple Awards



The SingHealth Academy Duke-NUS Golden Apple Awards is dedicated to recognising educators in SingHealth and Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School who have excelled in engaging and inspiring their learners in the discovery of knowledge.

In its second run this year, the awards are bigger and better – it features more categories and sub-categories for different healthcare professions such as medical, nursing, allied health, administration and research. Submit a nomination today!

Why the Award?


At SingHealth and Duke-NUS, educators play an important role for continuous learning and improvement in the pursuit of Academic Medicine. SingHealth Academy and Duke-NUS believe that excellence in teaching by incorporating creativity and innovation will enhance engagement and imbue the spirit of inquiry in learners, thereby contributing to better healthcare education. Hence, the award aims to recognise and encourage educators for their passion and dedication to demonstrate excellence in teaching.
 


Award Categories

A) Outstanding Young Educator Awards (Below the age of 40)
Medical  ▪  Nursing  ▪  Allied Health  ▪  Administration  ▪  Research
The Outstanding Young Educator Award recognises outstanding teaching potential among young educators (below the age of 40) in SingHealth and Duke-NUS. The educator will demonstrate dedication and commitment to excellence in educating the next generation of healthcare professionals.


B)
Outstanding Creative Educator Awards
Medical  ▪  Nursing  ▪  Allied Health  ▪  Administration  ▪  Research
The Outstanding Creative Educator Award recognises dedicated and progressive educators in SingHealth and Duke-NUS who demonstrate excellence in teaching by incorporating creative teaching methods into their curriculums. These educators integrate and use varied teaching methods to enhance the quality of learning experiences in SingHealth and/or Duke-NUS.


C)
Programme Innovation Awards   
Medical  ▪  Nursing  ▪  Allied Health  ▪  Administration  ▪  Research
The Programme Innovation Award is a unique award dedicated to recognising an educational programme in SingHealth and Duke-NUS for its innovation effort (that differs from the conventional practice among similar programmes). For the purpose of the award, programme innovation refers to the creation or improvement of a curriculum or pedagogy with the novel integration of a new or existing learning tool/technology, to enhance the quality of teaching and learning.


D) Dean's Award 
The Dean’s Award is a special award dedicated to honouring an outstanding individual who have demonstrated dedication and commitment in educating the next generation of healthcare professionals, and who have excelled in teaching or mentoring in SingHealth and/or Duke-NUS.

Eligibility


  • The award is open to SingHealth and Duke-NUS faculty members or staff with an active educating role in SingHealth, its group of hospitals and institutions and/or Duke-NUS.
  • Award nominations can be made for the following healthcare professions: medical, nursing, allied health, administration and research. Nominations should be submitted for the respective sub-categories accordingly. For example, to nominate a doctor for the Outstanding Young Educator Award, one should submit the nomination under the award’s “Medical” sub-category.
  • Individuals may nominate themselves, their educators or mentors, or other educators.
  • The Dean’s Award category is not open for nomination. The Dean’s Award is a special award given to individuals who have won more than one award in the SingHealth Academy Duke-NUS Golden Apple Awards within a span of five consecutive years. Hence, no nomination is required.
  • For individual awards (e.g. Outstanding Young Educator and Outstanding Creative Educator Awards), past winners are not eligible to participate in the same award category for three consecutive years after the year they receive the award.
