Providing Holistic Medical Training

Changi General Hospital’s (CGH) standing as an illustrious postgraduate training facility dates back to 1959 when it was first known as Thomson Road Hospital. It was later renamed Toa Payoh Hospital in the 1970s. Over the past half-century, the hospital has trained many notable physicians practicing in Singapore and overseas. Today, with its reputable education track record, medical graduates – local and foreign – continue to opt for training at CGH.

CGH’s education programmes focus on the following:

Structured and broad-based training
Programmes are devised to emphasise on basic medical and surgical knowledge, so that medical trainees attain a broad but firm foundation in these areas. Subspecialty teaching allows advanced trainees to gain specialised knowledge of specific medical areas. Its well-planned curriculum also includes sessions to provide doctors with latest medical advancements to promote skill upgrading.

Development of “soft skills”
Because medical professionals interact with patients and their family members on a daily basis, CGH delivers training in the “soft skills” of medical practice. Learning programmes include modules on enhancing communication skills, medico-legal knowledge, as well as people management competencies.

Continuing Medical Education (CME)
CGH’s team of specialists in gastroenterology, dermatology, obstructive sleep apnoea, sports medicine, and prostrate management, etc., conducts practice-oriented CME programmes that are relevant to primary care physicians.

About Changi General Hospital (CGH)
“Caring for the community in the East” – CGH’s motto – encapsulates the hospital’s long-term goal of serving as the healthcare hub of the east. To fulfil this, CGH offers a comprehensive range of medical and paramedical services.

Although it officially opened in 1998, CGH inherited a rich heritage from its predecessor, Toa Payoh Hospital (the renamed Thomson Road Hospital). Equipped with the largest integrated sports medicine centre in Singapore, the Changi Sports Medicine Centre (CSMC), CHG is highly regarded for its sports medicine specialty.
