Committed to Postgraduate Medical Education and Clinical Training
Established in 1994, the Singapore General Hospital - Postgraduate Medical Institute (SGH-PGMI) is committed to the continuing education and training of medical professionals.
SGH-PGMI builds upon SGH’s illustrious history in medical education and training that began in 1905, as well as its expertise as Singapore’s first postgraduate teaching hospital and principal training ground for 28 clinical specialties for a wide range of medical, surgical and clinical support specialty training.
The institute’s curriculum:
Contains a rich portfolio of medical programmes
SGH-PGMI offers a comprehensive range of continuing medical and professional education programmes from clinical skills training to scientific meetings and medical pedagogy programmes.
Nurtures educational leadership
The institute recognises that education leadership will provide the vibrancy and dynamism required in a fast-changing healthcare industry. To nurture forward-looking medical leaders, SGH-PGMI has partnered non-traditional training providers to enhance teaching resources through programmes such as healthcare management development and medical pedagogy.
Harnesses synergistic benefits with established institutions
SGH-PGMI actively collaborates with other local and international institutions for academic and medical exchanges. For instance, the institute previously launched a Telemedicine series in partnership with Stanford University. Implemented through the use of distance learning technology, SGH-PGMI extends content delivery beyond SGH to the region, including audiences in China and the Philippines.
Expands clinical expertise in the region
The institute offers unique opportunities for foreign medical specialists to take part in fellowships, training attachments, hospital management courses and medical learning tours. Since 1994, SGH-PGMI’s programmes have successfully trained over 400 foreign doctors representing 30 nationalities.
SGH-PGMI’s Mission
To promote postgraduate medical education and clinical training in order to enhance the standard of patient care and the reputation of the Singapore General Hospital as a leading medical institution. |
